Lunch will be provided before the program, followed by a panel discussion, an opportunity for community input, and a networking reception with fellow faculty, staff, and students.

AI and Energy at CMU: A panel discussion moderated by Theresa Mayer, CMU's Vice President for Research

  • A panel of CMU faculty will discuss how advances in AI are transforming the future of energy— and how energy challenges are, in turn, shaping the next wave of AI research. The panel will showcase a few innovative projects underway at CMU, followed by an opportunity for audience questions and dialogue. Panelists include:
    • Costa Samaras, Director of the Scott Institute for Energy Innovation and Trustee Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering
    • Valerie Karplus, Associate Director of the Scott Institute for Energy Innovation and Professor of Engineering and Public Policy
    • Zico KolterProfessor and Head, Machine Learning Department, School of Computer Science
    • Ramayya Krishnan, William W. and Ruth F. Cooper Professor of Management Science and Information Systems and Dean Emeritus at the Heinz College, Director, AI Measurement Science and Engineering Center

  • Through an interactive discussion, attendees will explore how CMU can lead at the intersection of AI and energy, identifying the research directions and priorities that could define CMU's research agenda for the next 5 - 10 years. Discussion facilitated by:
