Since 2023, the Scott Institute for Energy Innovation and the Center for Iron and Steelmaking Research (CISR) have co-hosted an annual gathering of leading experts on iron and steelmaking decarbonization from across the globe. Valerie Karplus, associate director of the Scott Institute, serves as event co-chair alongside CISR’s Chris Pistorius.
This conference is a rare opportunity to take stock of where the iron and steelmaking industry is in alignment, while also highlighting any divergences on how to accelerate decarbonization. Areas covered include research, development, and demonstration priorities and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounting principles to support deep decarbonization.
Both sessions have produced conference reports that offer recommendations for accommodating a growing demand for steel while making decarbonization a priority.
